Readers and Writers Alike


The activity that stood out to me the most was the concept tracker. For one it was completely new to me. I knew nothing about it and i've never heard about before. It was interesting learning about all the different key concepts and what they actually mean. What also stood out to me was after reading through whatever text was assigned to us and picking a quote that best matches the key concept we opened our minds up to understand that concept on another level. Throughout the class we've spent a lot of time reading and dissecting the text given to us. The reason for the concept tracker standing out is because from all the activities completed in class we always end back at the concept tracker. The reading strategies that come to mind being contextualization. One person can only understand what is inside their own mind and their own mind alone. Context gives out key ideas and main concepts in either writing or movies. It's the most important part of the text. It is what allows us to understand the text and connect with it.


As we keep making additions to our concept tracker only one reading really stands alone from the rest. That one being Mike Palmquist and how he talks about readers and writers. The reading goes into depth on different sub topics from “Considering your Reader” to “What is the Writer's Purpose”. It speaks about why people write and why people read. Mike writes about the types of things that influence them or motivate them. This reading was really interesting and I really enjoyed dissecting it in class. The rhetorical concept that stood out to me was purpose. The reason being because the definition given to us was “is an opinion on communication”. Everyone has their own opinions on anything so imagine the different possibilities for purpose. Opinions come from people's minds. Everyone thinks differently purpose is going to be uniquely molded to their minds. It may not make sense to others but to that person it could make perfect sense.
