Genre Analysis

Image result for genre analysis comic strip
This image is a comic strip about genre analysis.
Calvin, the little guy in the comic strip, tells Hobbes, the other charcter in the comic strip, the rules about war. He gets these rules by listening to stories that others tell him about war. Which is why this is a genre analysis. A genre analysis is when someone talks about a topic to somebody else, in this case war is the genre and Calvin analys it by telling Hobbes the rules about war.
Genre analysis is important for one to know how to do because when it comes to doing one, there are many steps you need to consider taking to properly complete one.
This is image is my introduction to a genre analysis.
An assignment that stood out to me the most, has to be the genre analysis I did on “CSUMB Issues for Track Athletes” by Luna Mercenit. It stood out to me the most because I had never done one of these in the past. I was completely lost at the beginning, I didn’t know how to begin. I just kept re-reading the article, up until I went back to my notes I had taken the class before and re-read them to myself. The note taking skills that I used were the following; I first read the article completely, after reading the article I then re-read it but this time I wrote down the key points about it, I then made annotations on the article so that I could reflect on them. After going back to my annotations everything was so much easier, I finally understood that we had to talk about the language, audience, purpose, and the type of information that Luna Mercenit uses throughout her article.

The note taking skills that I used were the following, I first read the article completely, after doing this I then re-read it again but this time I annotated Luna Mercenit's article to get a better understanding of her purpose. Once I was done reading and taking notes on her article, I then went on to putting my annotations together and writing a rough draft. By doing so I was able free write the genre analysis but at the same time also being able to go back and fix my errors so that I could turn that rough draft into a final draft.

A rhetorical concept that occurred to me while doing the assignment was perspective, this is because by reading the article, I was able to learn more about how the CSUMB track athletes felt on not having their own track and field to practice and compete on. Purpose was another rhetorical concept that occurred to me while doing the assignment. Purpose occurred to me because by reading the article, I was not only able to understand the purpose for why Luna Mercenit chose to write about this topic, but also what she wanted her readers to do with it.
