Genre Analysis: My experience

This is a screenshot of a paragraph from my Genre Analysis Essay. This is a sample of my writing after analyzing others work to help my writing be more successful. 

Genre Analysis. Genre means a form of communicating as in (twitter, essay, presentation, etc) and analysis means examining to understand, genre analysis is examining a form of communication. Genre Analysis is done by everybody in their daily life, another way to see genre analysis is by picturing a situation then looking into all the factors that lead up to the final ending. Genre Analysis in a way is the opposite of assuming, it is knowing all the important details before saying something about what is going on. 

For the genre analysis assignment we read a Luna Mercenit's article called “CSUMB Issues for Track Athletes” which talked about how track athletes were treated and how their life changed by removing the track and field facilities on CSUMB campus.  Our assignment was to analyze Mercenit's arguments to truly understand how to write a very good argumentative essay and be able to apply it to an argumentative essay. Some strategies that were used to help us understand the text was reading the article as much as we can to truly understand what the author was trying to say.  We were talking about her strategies and what she used in her writing that we learned from her. Another thing that helped was that a lot of discussions were made about the article in class. This helped us look at her writing in different perspectives and made us break it down even further. There was a chance to listen to everybody's ideas which helped with the genre analysis. It was easy to learn from Mercenit's writing and able to apply in our essays, which not only makes you a better reader but also an even better writer.  A rhetorical concept that occurred was perspective and purposes. Luna had a purpose and that was to let as many people the way that CSUMB is treating their athletes. Luna was speaking to her audience in a very good manner, she was good at explaining everything she said which can teach a lot about argumentative essays but also keeping the audience involved. She also included a lot of detail on her opinions with explanations which lead her to her understandings. The assignment was very good practice because it taught me how to write more professionally  by looking really into what it takes to write a good argumentative essay.
